Marie (Rose) Hofmockel, 91, wife of the late Kendall Earl Hofmockel, of King of Prussia, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Thursday, August 4, 2022. Born on May 18, 1931, she grew up in Sunman, Indiana, the daughter of the late Henry Clay Rose and Lou Dora (Sebastian) Rose. She and Ken were high school sweethearts and wrote letters back and forth to Purdue until they were married Aug. 26, 1951, just before the start of Ken’s senior year. They were blessed with seven children, 13 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. They were positively involved in the lives of family, extended family, friends and neighbors. Among the many church offices Marie and Ken held, one of their favorites was youth counselor at both St. Paul Lutheran, in Philadelphia and Good Shepherd Lutheran in King of Prussia. They joined The Compassionate Friends after the death of their son, Douglas Hofmockel and continued to serve after the loss of their grandson Steven Schneibolk. The organization helped them to move forward in their grief and in turn they helped other families move forward as well. They served as chapter leaders, region coordinators and Marie served on the National Board. They organized two national conferences in the Philadelphia area, assisting with many other nationals in cities across the country and regionals conferences in the tri-state area. The monthly newsletters they wrote reached out to countless bereaved families suffering from the loss of a child or sibling. Marie was a loving babysitter for many children over the years and especially enjoyed indulging her own grandkids. She was an avid crocheter, a wonderful cook and excellent seamstress, making family members wedding dresses including her own. She was a strong, smart, loving woman who made many fond memories with family on vacation to Key West, Hawaii, Tennessee and numerous trips out west and abroad. Marie was deeply loved by her family and friends and will be sorely missed. Her lifelong commitment to family, spirit of service to others and the loving example she and Ken set for those around them will be passed down for generations to come. Marie is survived by her children, Teresa Fitzgerald (Robert), Pamela Schneibolk, Gwendolen Sullivan (Kenneth), Kevin Hofmockel (Jean), Cynthia Matosky (Matthew), Michael Hofmockel (Kirsten), beloved niece, Marilynn Anton (Donald), a sister, Virginia (Elwin) Abplanalp, 12 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and countless nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her son, Douglas Alan Hofmockel; grandson, Steven Harry Schneibolk; and 14 siblings. Relatives and friends are invited to Marie’s funeral service at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 132 E. Valley Forge Rd., King of Prussia, PA on Saturday September 3, 2022 at 10 a.m. Interment will be in Valley Forge Memorial Gardens, King of Prussia.
