Marie J.Kizel (Philadelphia) died August 11, 2021 peacefully at Holy Redeemer Hospital. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Edward F. Kizel. Marie was born November 11, 1932 in Atlas, PA.(Mount Carmel). She was the youngest of nine children of the late Richard and Josephine (Growski) Menapace. She was preceded in death by siblings Richard (Stella), Hubert (Mary Jane), Elizabeth, Eleanor Wascavage (Joseph), Edwin (Genevieve), Celesta De Francesco (Anthony), Bernard (Claire). She had two brothers named Edwin that preceded her in death, the first at the age of seven. Marie was married to Edward on June 26, 1954 and had four children, Stephen, Ann, Jason (Dawn), Seth (Denise). Grandmother to Taylor, Jacqueline, Mikayla, Kainalu and Olivia. In her early twenties, she worked for the CIA while living in Maryland with her parents. She and Ed moved to the Philadelphia area and lived in a small apartment on Stenton Avenue where they met some of their closest friends and travel companions. She was working for Bell Telephone when they decided to purchase a house on Mather Road in Jenkintown, Pa. While raising four kids she was actively involved in her community. A Brownie / Girl Scout troop leader, Jenkintown Youth Athletics girls soccer coach, Jenkintown Music Theater Stage Manager, Parent Teacher Association President and American Field Service President, a member of the Philadelphia area Questers and she ran the scoring table at the Manor Lu Swim Club. When all her children entered school, she returned to work and was employed by Charles E. Shorday, a local grocer who owned Great Scot and Shorday Markets in the Philadelphia area. She did Bookkeeping and Payroll for all his stores until he retired. She continued working as a bookkeeper for a local construction company for another five years before leaving to work a few small jobs before eventually retiring. Her greatest passion was cooking, she loved to cook and everyone loved her food. She taught all her children and grandchildren to cook and bake, even boyfriends, girlfriends and wives. She held spaghetti dinners every Friday night during high school football season for the entire team. She provided Meals on Wheels to the Church of the Immaculate Conception, on a regular basis. Her pantry, freezer and refrigerator were always stocked to make anything you could imagine and she explored all kind of culinary dishes and techniques. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting and shared it with her granddaughters and daughters. She played CYO basketball as a girl, loved sports and games and was very competitive in everything she did. She loved her family more than anything, especially her grandchildren. No matter how much she was with them it was never enough. She loved and cared for her husband of 67 years and could not live without him. She was the loudest, most loving, caring, opinionated, person you could ever meet. Relatives and friends are invited to her visitation Saturday, June 4, 2022 from 9-9:50 AM and her funeral mass at 10:00 AM both at Immaculate Conception BVM Church, 602 West Ave. Jenkintown, PA 19046.
