Mary T. (Gillespie) Dougan passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at Peter Becker Community in Harleysville, PA. She was 97. Mary worked as a telephone operator for the Bell Telephone Co. until her retirement in 1976, and was a member of the Bell Telephone Pioneers. She traveled extensively and visited every state except Oregon. Mary was an adventurer, an avid historical fiction reader, and a Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies fan. Born in Swedeland, PA on November 1, 1919, she was a daughter of the late William and Mary (Whittle) Gillespie. She was the wife of the late Don Dougan, who died in 2012. Surviving are 4 grandchildren: Michael J. (Nicole N.) McGrory, Jr., Daniel T. (Natalie K.) McGrory, John (Roseanne C.) McGrory and Robyn L. (John P.) Mikulich; 9 great-grandchildren; and a niece who was her caretaker, Patricia E. DeSpirito. She was preceded in death by a son, Michael McGrory, Sr.; and 2 brothers, Francis and William Gillespie. Mary’s Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Maria Goretti Church, 1601 Derstine Rd., Hatfield, PA 19440 on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at 10:30 am. The family will receive relatives & friends from 9:30 to 10:20 am, at the church. Interment will be in Valley Forge Memorial Gardens, King of Prussia, PA.
