Betty (Mary Elizabeth) Dougherty April 9, 1923 – September 28, 2021 Betty Dougherty, 98, of Audubon, PA died peacefully on September 28, 2021 at the Rehab at Shannondell. She was born during a snowstorm on April 9, 1923 to the late Francis and Anna Logue in Wilkinsburg, PA, causing the doctor to arrive on horseback to deliver her at the family home. She was the youngest of six children who have all pre-deceased her. Betty graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from Rosemont College. She worked running the Philadelphia laboratory of Smith, Kline & French prior to meeting her husband. She also worked as a supervisor in a medical coding company prior to her retirement in 1988. Betty was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was married to the late John C. Dougherty for 55 years. The couple lived in Maple Glen, PA the bulk of their marriage before moving to Hilton Head, SC in 1988. Upon her husband’s death, she returned to PA in 2005. She is survived by a daughter, B.A. McGettigan of Downingtown, PA; a son, John C. Dougherty, Jr. of East Norriton, PA; seven grandchildren – J.J. McGettigan (Michelle), Sean McGettigan (Maggi), Brian McGettigan, Courtney Demas (Kevin), Katie Kershner (Dan), Ryan Dougherty, and Kyle Dougherty; as well as eleven great-grandchildren – Ana, Lily, Mason, Danny, Abbey, Bella, Dexter, Kailey, Zoey, Addie and J.T. Betty was happiest when spending time with her loved ones; celebrating their successes, commiserating their losses. She loved quality time spent over holidays, crossword puzzles, word games, meals, game shows, golf, and vacations. A celebration of her life will be planned at a future date and a private family service will be held in Hilton Head, SC. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
