Mary Elizabeth Fox Hesser, 81, of Jenkintown, PA, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was born to Ann Marie (Malia) and Francis Fox on January 15, 1944. She met Jim, the love of her life and husband of 58 years, in 1966 at a VFW dance. Together, they settled in Jenkintown and raised their two children, Jimmie and Eileen, surrounded by extended family.
Mary was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt who adored her grandchildren, grand-dogs, and nieces and nephews. Cheering on her loved ones in their endeavors delighted Mary, and she rarely missed an opportunity to be present at performances and sporting events, even when this entailed a plane ride or long drive.
A highly respected sign language interpreter, Mary’s career took her around the world. Highlights included interpreting for President Barack Obama, President Bill Clinton, Pope Francis, and the 2016 Democratic National Convention.
Mary shared her warmth with a wide circle of friends, and she and Jim welcomed all who set foot in their Jenkintown and Beach Haven homes with genuine affection and unmatched hospitality. Cooking eclectic and delicious meals for those she loved brought Mary immense joy, as did cultivating beautiful gardens with an abundance of flowers and vegetables to share. An avid Phillies fan, Mary created unforgettable experiences for her family who joined her for games at Citizen’s Bank Park.
Mary was an incredibly strong, generous, and caring person who embraced life and community. She was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed. She is survived by her husband, Jim; her son, Jimmie (Mildred); her daughter, Eileen; her grandchildren, Phoebe, Ivan, Zack, Leah, Fiona, and Ryan; and her sisters, Nancy and Eileen.
A Celebration of Life will be held on May 17th at 12 noon at The Highland (391 Highland Ave., Glenside). Light fare and beverages will be served.
