Mary Jane Nitterauer

Mary Jane (Shenkle) Nitterauer passed away peacefully on the morning of June 3rd, 2024 in Stuart, Florida where she has resided for the past 24 years. Jane, as she was known to her friends, was born on June 29th, 1937 in Norristown, Pennsylvania. She attended Eisenhower High School where she played field hockey. She graduated in 1955 and began working at Bell Telephone. She married James D. Nitterauer, Sr. in 1958 at All Saints Episcopal Church where she attended from a young age. Shortly after, she travelled to Germany living there while her husband served at several duty stations while in the U.S. Army.

After returning from Germany, they moved to a farm in Harleysville, Pennsylvania where she helped the family train and show horses, raise pigs and steers, and grow food to feed a growing family. She worked for a time for the Wawa Corporation helping to open and manage several stores in the Lansdale area. Jane was an avid card player and a long-standing member of her local card club. She also helped run Auer Farm, Inc. and a horseshoeing business as well as participating in local 4-H clubs with her children. She enjoyed training and showing ponies, flyfishing, horseback riding and regular trips to the Amish country for shoo fly pie.

She and her husband moved to Florida in 1985. There, she earned her real estate license and worked as a regional manager for Act Media. She is preceded in death by her husband of 42 years. She is survived by two sons: James D. Nitterauer, Jr. and his wife Susan of Gulf Breeze, FL, and John D. Nitterauer and his wife Janine of Asheville, NC, and a daughter Nancy Dunn of Port St. Lucie, FL. She is also survived by six grandchildren.

A graveside memorial service will be held on June 14, 2024 at 11:00 AM at the Valley Forge Memorial Gardens, King of Prussia, PA.
