Mary C. Macartney

June 20, 1924 — November 29, 2014

Mary C. Macartney (nee. Cullinan) of Audubon, Pa. passed away suddenly, but peacefully, on the evening of November 29th, at the age of 90.   Devoted wife of the late Robert L Macartney, to whom she was married for 47 years.  Mary was also preceded in death by her siblings Hugh, John, Joe, Betty, and Helen.  Mary is survived by her loving daughters, Catherine Chandlee (Bill) and Sally Sweeney (Joe). She was known lovingly to her seven grandchildren -Rob (Gen), Michael (Allison), Amy (Tom), Bill, Stacey, Joseph, and Sheena as Mom-mom, and as great Mom-mom to her five great-grandchildren- Michael, Hailey, Owen, Ryan, and Robbie.   Mary grew up in Glenolden, PA, the daughter of Mary and Joseph Cullinan. As the oldest of five siblings, she took on great responsibility early in life at age thirteen helping care for them when her father passed away suddenly. She was a proud graduate of Notre Dame High School in Moylan, PA., Class of 1942.   She enjoyed summers at the lake in the Poconos or down the shore in Sea Isle. An avid reader, she could sit by the water and spend all day just relaxing and reading. When she wasn’t reading, she rarely missed watching Action News in the evening, followed by Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. Mary was also a loyal fan of the Phillies and Eagles.   Mary’s favorite time spent was with her family. Rarely did you invite Mary to a family event that she did not show up to, at her happiest when surrounded by family and friends. Mary always remembered to send a card (in impeccable handwriting) for any special occasion, her thoughtfulness and compassion unlike any other. Few would argue that Mary was the kindest and most considerate person they knew. She made everyone, regardless of who you were, feel loved and special to her. And in turn, Mary was well loved by a great number of people who will miss her deeply. She was a devout Catholic and a communicant of St. Teresa of Avila Church in Norristown, PA. Family and Friends are invited to attend a viewing from 9 – 9:50 AM on Friday, December 5, 2014 followed by a mass at 10 AM at St. Teresa of Avila located at 1260 S Trooper Rd, Norristown, PA 19403.
