A RAINBOW is the symbol that will always shine down to remind us of her incredible life.

Matilda (Tilly) Casey passed away Monday June 19th at the age of 4. She was born at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) on June 17th, 2019. Tilly had a condition known as Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH), which is a hole in the diaphragm that causes lung, heart, and other medical issues. This caused her to spend the first year of her life at CHOP. Tilly was able to finally leave the hospital and go home with her family in September 2020. She then spent the last 3 years of her life living it to the fullest. Playing games with her brother, Nathan, creating beautiful works of art, and traveling to see oceans, mountains, and national parks in 13 different states.

Tilly had a fierce spirit and incredibly charismatic energy – anyone who met her could not help falling completely in love with her. Her deep love for music, color, and animals was irresistible. She was quick to create her own language of squawks and signs to communicate with her friends and family. She had STRONG opinions and was eager to share them with the world.

Her mother, Aubrey, and father, Jordan cultivated the best life any little girl could have imagined. They filled her days with music, games, and adventure. They provided the best at-home care to ensure Tilly could spend her days with her family surrounded by those who loved her.

We are grateful for the 4 years we got to spend with our Mighty Matilda. She changed all of us for the better and her joy will be held in our hearts forever.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to either Mighty Mojo’s Warriors https://www.mightymojo.org/ to fund CHOP’s CDH research or The CDH Foundation https://thecdhfoundation.org/ to support CDH families.
