Melva Mae (Scott) Baker Surrounded by her family and friends and showered with an abundance of love, Melva passed away peacefully at her home on February 25, 2021. Born in Wilmington, DE on January 14, 1920, Melva was the daughter of the late Mary (Dillman) and Henry Gropp. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brothers, William (Jean) and Virden (Thelma) Scott, brother in law Ronald Wadman Sr., and great nephew Wesley Wadman. Melva means “gentle lady” and she most certainly was always a proper lady who loved beyond measure. Her education was cut short to care for her sick mother, brothers and sister but what she lacked in education she made up for in determination and hard work. Melva was a homemaker while her son was growing up and went on to work for Delaware Park for many years as a teller and for her son at Albatross Marine Supply. She loved antiques, finding deals at thrift stores, trips to Lancaster and spending time with her dear friends Ruth, Fil and Anne...but above all she loved her family the most. If you were ever in the presence of Melva you were certain to have a great time and be left filled with gratitude, love and laughter. She will certainly be remembered for her incredible humor and one liners. Melva knew, praised and loved the Lord so there is comfort in knowing those left to cherish the memories of this incredible woman will see her again in our eternal home in heaven. Left to keep her in our hearts here on earth are her son Ronald Baker (Elaine); ex-daughter in law Nancy Baker; granddaughter Amy (Baker) Kosmalski (Rick); great grandchildren Kayla, Logan and Brynnley Kosmalski; sister Doris (Gropp) Wadman; niece Ronna (Wadman) Glenn (Tony); nephew Ronald Wadman Jr.(Colleen); great nephews Ryan and Justin Glenn and a great niece Samantha (Wadman) McDaniel (Nicholas) and many other family, nieces, a nephew and friends. The family wishes to thank Tasha Wynn for her impeccable care of Melva during her final months. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the DFRC, 321foundation, Calvary Presbyterian Church, or any charity close to your heart in Melva’s name. Services for Melva will be private.
