Michael Furlong Sr.

June 23, 1963 – September 19, 2025

A long-time resident of Jenkintown, Pa., and more recently of Long Pond, Pa., passed away suddenly at his home at the age of 62. He is survived by his devoted wife, Patricia; his two sons, Andrew (Ali) and Michael Jr. (Caitlin); and his four beloved grandchildren, Maeve, Madison, Wyatt, and Sean. He is also survived by his brother, Ed Furlong (Joanne), and five sisters, Shirley Pearce (Bob), Barbara Shaw (Ron), Kathy Johnson (Tony), Patricia West, and Mary Ellen Fitzgerald (Paul), as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Doris, and his sister, Diane.

Known affectionately as “Big Mike” among his many friends, he will be remembered for his larger-than-life personality. In his younger years this included a known penchant for motorcycles, country music, Marlboro Red’s, Jack Daniel’s, and Budweiser. However, in later years he retired from his usual stool and spent his time basking in the outdoor space of his quiet mountain hideaway with only the company of his dear wife.

Professionally, Mike worked for many years as an HVAC technician before transitioning to school maintenance, eventually becoming the Maintenance Supervisor for the East Stroudsburg School District.

Mike was a life member and former Lieutenant of the Pioneer Fire Company No.1 in Jenkintown, where he cherished the camaraderie of his fellow firefighters, including the family members who served alongside him. He also dedicated time to coaching multiple youth sports through JYA during the 1990s and 2000s.

A lifelong Philadelphia sports fan, he proudly supported the Eagles, Flyers, and Phillies.

Relatives and friends are invited to his visitation, Monday, September 29th from 9am-10:15am followed by his funeral mass at 10:30am both held at Immaculate Conception BVM Church, 604 West Ave. Jenkintown, PA.
