Murray Michael E. ‘Mick’, age 76, of Newmanstown, Pa, formerly of Philadelphia, passed peacefully surrounded by his family on January 20, 2022. Beloved husband of Patricia L. (nee Moyse). Loving father of Michael P., Tracee Wardlow (Matthew), and Lisa Damico (Tony). Devoted Pop Pop to Kelsey Murray, Emily, William and Bridget Wardlow and Olivia, Evelyn, Tony Jr., and Tommy Damico. Mick was born on December 4, 1945, a son to the late Gertrude (nee Landkamer) and Charles Murray. Mick is survived by his brother William (Mary) and preceded in death by 9 siblings Mary, Charles (Bo), Robert, Thomas, Teresa, John, Joseph, Patricia, and Richard. Some of his most cherished times were while serving 29 years as a Philadelphia Firefighter at Engine 29, Ladder 7, Rescue 1 located at 4th and Girard (pronounced as Ger’odd)! The “A” platoon was like family. Known as “Mickey” around the fire house, he also played prominent roles as resident chef, the tile guy and the guy who would prank you with hidden firecrackers or a fake mouse tied to the inside of a cabinet door. To say that he was an incredible firefighter and friend is an understatement. Mick’s happy place was hands down Townsend’s Inlet, Sea Isle City, fishing for flounder with his fresh bucket of minnows. He taught his kids and his grandkids to fish, which will forever be cherished. You would also find him eating dinner in the same chair across from Pat, at the same time EVERY night with an episode of MASH on. And when you heard “House of the Rising Sun” playing, you knew that was Dad’s phone ringing which brought back memories of many nights of dancing to his favorite song. The grandkids loved playing poker with him when they stayed overnight and playing ball for endless hours in the yard. Mick also served in the United States Army, 2nd Battalion of the 66th Armored Regiment of the 2nd Armored Division from ’65 – ‘67. He graduated from Northeast Catholic High School in 1964. Relatives and friends are invited to St. Cyril of Jerusalem Church on Friday, January 28th starting at 10:30 AM where a funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 AM.
