Nancy Hundley

October 21, 1936 — August 14, 2023

Nancy Wentz Hundley 86, passed away peacefully on August 14,2023. Nancy was born and raised in Danville, Virginia where she met and married Donald T. Hundley and were married for 63 years. Donald passed away in November 2022. She was also predeceased by her parents Ira and Willie Mae Wentz, and brothers James and Jerry Wentz.

She was the proud mother to Sanford Hundley (Rhonda) of Trooper, Floyd Hundley (Kathy) of Lansdale, Susan Hundley Riehs (Jules Jr) of Collegeville, and Diana Sosnowski (Joe) of Blue Bell. In addition, grandchildren Amanda Durnin (Nathan), Nancy and Emily Barber, Jules Riehs III and Christian Riehs.

Nancy was a graduate of Stratford College in Danville, Va and worked as a Medical Technologist. Nancy and Donald moved to Norristown in 1964 with their two sons and later welcomed two daughters. Nancy was an active member of the Haws Avenue United Methodist Church for 59 years where she sang in the choir. She loved singing on Sundays with the choir and the annual performances of Handel’s Messiah and the St. Mathews Passion. She was also a member of a choral group comprised of friends and performed at events in the community.

Nancy began her active volunteerism at an early age as a Girl Scout, Girl Scout leader and active member of her Methodist church in Danville, Va. In later years, she was a founding member of Haws Avenue United Methodist Church’s Soup Kitchen, Food Pantry and the “Daisy Shop”, consignment shop with many of her lifelong friends and church members. Many may remember her driving her red Lincoln around Norristown with a trunk of donated bakery items sharing with families in need. Nancy was also very creative, she owned Nancy’s Ceramics along with her partner and friend Freda Pidcoe and taught ceramics for many years. Many of her talents also included sewing and quilting and she was a member of the Quilters Guild.

After raising her four children, Nancy was elected to the Norristown Area School Board, where she served for ten years. Her commitment and strong belief of community, community service and education were evident in all that she did and a wonderful example to her children and others within the community. Nancy was also an avid reader, movie enthusiast and proud of her strong southern roots and heritage. She had a strong sense of humor, enjoyed a good joke or story and was happy to share with others.

Memorial services will be held on September 15, 2023, 10:00 am at the Haws Avenue United Methodist Church, 800 West Marshall St. Norristown,Pa. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Haws Avenue United Methodist Church Soup Kitchen, please reference Nancy Hundley or Food Pantry. For those attending memorial services at Haws Avenue United Methodist Church, donations of paper goods and cleaning supplies will be collected on behalf of the Food Pantry/Soup Kitchen. The family welcomes those attending to share a story or fond memory as part of the service.
