Norman Wells, formerly of St. Davids, who was born on July 11, 1937 in Denver, Colorado to Melvin and Grace Wells, passed peacefully in his sleep in the early morning hours of September 30, 2018 after a prolonged battle with what felt like every health issue known to man. The product of blue-collar parents in a working class neighborhood in Denver, Norman was the first member of his family to attend college. He received both his Bachelors and Masters degrees in history from the University of Colorado in Boulder. He carried this passion for history throughout his life. In early 1973, Norman was introduced to Katherine Rottsolk by mutual friends. The two married in December of the same year and began their lives together in Minneapolis. They recently celebrated their 44th anniversary. The couple had one child, James, currently of Philadelphia. Even as his health and memory deteriorated, Norman never stopped showing the deep love and devotion he held for his wife and son. Norman had a beautiful and complicated soul, a scholarly and perceptive mind, and a sly, biting sense of humor that managed to be both his most charming and most intimidating attribute. In his professional work as a health benefits consultant, he was a fierce advocate for the little guy and always sought to keep insurance companies honest. He was a passionate fan of and one-time recruiter for Colorado Buffaloes football, grew up idolizing Stan Musial, and was happy to see John Elway win Super Bowls for the Broncos. He loved music and had an extensive collection of albums spanning all genres. He almost certainly watched “Die Hard” over a thousand times. He could be rough around the edges, but he left an impression. Katherine and James will host a private gathering for immediate friends and family at a time to be determined. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donating to a local charity that you feel would best honor Norman’s memory.
