Philomena F. (Messantonio) Deegan passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 19, 2009 at Phoenixville Hospital in Phoenixville, PA. She was 85. Mrs. Deegan was known as "Phil", "Menna" and Fance was her special name that only her husband called her. She was a resident of Eagleville, PA and worked as a cook for the King of Prussia Volunteer Fire Co. Phil also worked for Detra Flag and the Hampton Inn, both in Oaks, PA. She was a member of Visitation B.V.M. Church, Trooper, PA, the King of Prussia Ladies Auxiliary and the Ladies Auxiliary of the 30th Infantry Association Division. She enjoyed talking with the reactors of the 30th Division and going to South Carolina every year for the 30th Divisions reunion. Phil was a volunteer foster grandmother at the YMCA for the past 3 years. Her favorite pastime was going to the casinos but most of all she loved, enjoyed and spoiled her family and especially her grandchildren. Every Sunday she made meatballs and every Tuesday she made home-made spaghetti for her whole family. Phil was a "one of a kind" mom. She taught how to love and not be selfish, how to give and not want. She had a heart of gold and will be sadly missed by all.Born in Bridgeport, PA on November 19, 1923, she was a daughter of the late Caesar and Marie (Mazzarella) Messantonio. Surviving are her loving family including her husband of 57 years, James F. "Frank" Deegan; a son, Daniel J. Deegan and his wife, Kathleen of Collegeville, PA; 2 daughters, Lorraine Endlich and her husband, Tom of Eagleville, PA and Janet Bennett of Eagleville, PA; 5 grandchildren: JT, Derek, Matthew, Patrick and Casey; 3 sisters: Christine Chendorain of W. Norriton, PA, Enis Praskay of PA and Theresa Judge of Virginia; and many nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by 7 brothers, Peter, Salvatore, Augustus, Carmen, William, Charles, Salvatore "Sonny" and and a sister, Mildred Bolognese.Relatives & friends are invited to her Funeral Mass at Visitation B.V.M. Church, 196 N. Trooper Rd., Trooper, PA on Thursday, September 24, 2009 at 10:00am. Her viewings will be Wednesday evening from 6 to 8pm, at The Bacchi-Courtney Funeral Home & Crematory, Ltd., 805 DeKalb St. (Rt. 202), Bridgeport, PA 19405 and Thursday morning from 9 to 9:50am, at the church.
