Raphael (Rayfield) “Ray” Dudley Jr., 61, of Newark, DE, passed away on May 30, 2019 at Christiana Hospital in Newark, DE. Born in Brooklyn, NY on May 16, 1958, he was the youngest of 13 children to the late Elsie (Banks) and Rayfield Dudley. Ray was the beloved husband of Shari Dudley with whom he shared 37 years of marriage. He is survived by two sons: Ian Rayfield Dudley and Devin Cedric Dudley (Saretta) and two grandchildren: Ian Rayfield Dudley Jr. and Nashay Wells. Ray was born in raised in Brooklyn, NY and received his high school diploma from Lafayette High School. Thereafter, he attended the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City where he studied Interior Design. In his early adulthood, Ray was known to enjoy a number of activities. He danced, roller skated, and cycled all across Brooklyn. With no shortage of athleticism and skill, he played handball, practiced gymnastics, and earned a black belt in the art of Goju-Ryu. These early disciplines contributed much to the foundations of Ray becoming a loving father-figure to family, friends, and strangers alike. He dedicated his life to Jehovah and symbolized this by water baptism alongside his wife on December 25, 1977. He served as an elder at the Clinton Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses on Halsey Street in Brooklyn. He was employed with New York City Police Department Division of School Safety for over twelve years where he served as Supervising Sergeant of Central Headquarters. There he monitored and dispatched security for all New York City schools. Upon moving to Delaware, he served as Security Manager for Farmers Insurance Group in Newark, DE. Ray was dedicated and professional in all the jobs he held. Ray was a member of the Nottingham Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. He served as an elder for a number of years and enjoyed his various assignments such as: serving on the Hospital Liaison, the Operating Committee, acting as the Literature servant and conducting the Watchtower study. Throughout his life, Ray enjoyed listening and singing oldies, building scale models, and almost anything science fiction; especially Star Trek. Ray was dearly loved and will be missed by many. Family and Friends are invited to a funeral talk this Saturday, June 8, 2019 at 2:30 pm at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses located at 40 Old Newark Rd, Newark, DE.
