Rev. Gregory J. Hickey, Saint Joseph Villa Flourtown, Pastor Emeritus of St. Gabriel of the Sorrowful Church Stowe, PA 19464 passed away, Thursday, August 3, 2023, at Chestnut Hill Hospital.

Gregory was born in Darby, PA on August 10, 1947, a son of the late Helen G. (Lockard) and Joseph T. Hickey.

Fr. Gregory J. Hickey was ordained a priest at the Cathedral-Basilica of Ss. Peter and Paul, Philadelphia, May 19,1979. He has served as a Parochial Vicar at the following parishes: Ss. Simon and Jude, Westtown; Saint Augustine, Bridgeport, and Saint Leo, Philadelphia. Most of his priestly assignments had been in education: Cardinal Dougherty, Saint Hubert’s, Conwell-Egan, Roman Catholic and Kennedy-Kenrick, where he was both Principal and President. While serving in the high school apostolate, he was in residence both at Our Lady Help of Christians in Philadelphia and St. Helena, Blue Bell. He was Chaplain and full-time faculty at Immaculata University, West Chester, while an Ed.D. Candidate in Educational Leadership at St. Joseph’s University, Philadelphia.

He held an M.A. from Villanova University in Secondary Ed Administration, an M. Div. from St. Charles Seminary, and a B.A. in Psychology from Temple University. He was certified in the Myers-Briggs Type Inventory. He has served on numerous boards as well as chairing several Middle States evaluations, which is an accrediting agency in education.

Later he was named Rector of Malvern Retreat House. He was the Pastor of St. John Fisher in Boothwyn, PA. He last served as Pastor of St. Gabriel of the Sorrowful Mother, Stowe until retiring in 2020.

He is survived by his siblings Eileen (Jim) Reed, Audubon, Joan Scollon, Ambler, Maureen Ghion, Ambler, Janice (Jack) Washeleski, Stone Harbor, NJ; 8 nieces and nephews, 6 great nieces and great nephews, relatives, and friends all.

A Public Viewing will be held at St. Helena Church, 1489 DeKalb Pike, Blue Bell, PA 19422, Friday, August 11, 2023, 9am to 10:45am followed by a Funeral Mass at 11am celebrated by Archbishop Nelson J. Perez. Interment will be private.
