Rev. Joseph E O'Brien Rev. Joseph E. O'Brien, of St. Leo the Great Church and Our Lady of Consolation Church in Philadelphia, PA passed away peacefully on March 26, 2015 at age 90. Joseph was born in Philadelphia, PA on July 16, 1924 to Annie Jane (Taggart) and Joseph O’Brien who both were born in Ireland. His Mother died when he was 2 years old and he was the youngest of seven siblings. He grew up in St. John’s orphanage. He was the dear Brother of the late Catherine Kenney, Sister Rose O'Brien CBS, Francis O'Brien and Helen McCloskey. Father Joe was a Catholic Priest for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia for 64 years. He was a priest at St. Leo the Great Church in Philadelphia, PA for over 30 years, Father Joe has been a Fourth Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus since his early days in the priesthood and he enjoyed golf. He was a graduate of Saint Thomas Moore High School where he played the trumpet as a band member. He is the Loving uncle of Jane Mooney (Patrick), and Great Uncle of Joseph Mooney (Terry), Claire Gillen (Bill), Bridget Aponik (Joe) and John Mooney (Jenn), he is also survived by 8 great great nephews and one great great niece. Relatives and Friends are invited to his viewing on Tuesday March 31 from 9- 10:45 AM and to his Funeral Mass which will be celebrated at 11 AM at St. Leo the Great Church. His Interment will be privately held on April 1, 2015 at Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Consolation church for the poor and needy of Tacony 7051 Tulip St. Philadelphia, PA 19135.
