Rhamiya Ruth Lawrence

June 15, 1954 — December 10, 2025

Cheltenham

Rhamiya Ruth Lawrence, age 71, of Cheltenham, PA, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family, leaving behind a legacy of love, devotion, and kindness. Born on June 15, 1954, in Madras, India, Rhamiya was the beloved daughter of the late Leila (nee John) and Victor Jesudasen.

Rhamiya was a proud graduate of Women's Christian College, where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in History. She was known for her amazing cooking, and enjoyed music, her work in administration, and cheering for the Philadelphia 76ers. Most important to her, however, was caring for her children, grandchildren, and her family and friends.

She was the cherished wife of Richard Lawrence. As a mother, she nurtured her daughters, Leila Lawrence, Tina Newstead, and son-in-law Jason Newstead, with love, kindness, and compassion. Her greatest joy in life was in her role as Achi in the lives of her grandchildren, Nikhil, Sahmara, Melina, and Devendra.

Rhamiya was also a dear sister to Anand and Aruna, and sister-in-law to Sheila, Maureen, Pops, and Moses. She held the memories of her late sister Yamuna, brother Binoo, and brother-in-law Anbu close to her heart. She also was a beloved aunt to her nieces and nephews who she deeply loved and cherished.

Faith was a cornerstone of Rhamiya’s life. She was affiliated with Lansdale Presbyterian Church for many years and was devoted to serving those less fortunate through her involvement with the Food from the Heart Program, a ministry that embodied her generous spirit and commitment to helping others.

Rhamiya dedicated her life to caring for the family and friends that she loved dearly, and the impact of her generosity and kindness is beyond measure.

Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing Thursday, December 18, 2025 from 10-11 AM followed by her religious service at 11 AM both held at the Walter J. Meyers Funeral Home, 507 West Ave. Jenkintown, PA. The livestream of the service will start at 10:50 AM.  Refreshments will be served following the service at Lilly’s Authentic Indian Cuisine, 726 West Ave. Jenkintown PA.
