Richard F. Fusco, 73, of Wyncote, PA passed away Tuesday, December 20, 2022 peacefully, at Hopkins Center, Montgomery County, PA.
Born in White Plains, NY on February 18, 1949, Richard was the son of the late Martha (Prezioso) and Fulvio Fusco. He was raised in Yonkers, NY and has always considered New York his home.
Richard graduated from Manhattan College with a degree in marketing. His career as a nursing home administrator spanned more than 30 years in facilities in New Jersey and Maryland. In addition to ensuring efficient and successful operations of the facilities, Richard was primarily committed to the care and well-being of his residents as well as supporting, encouraging and mentoring his employees. Many colleagues wrote to tell of his influence on them.
“He took me under his wings like I was his daughter, he taught me so much, like how to keep my mouth shut, and always how to pick my battles; he never treated me like I was beneath administration. I owe all my work ethic to him, he spoiled me, he believed in me and sometimes that’s all you need”. – Lawanda “Tootie” Lawrence
“He was my mentor and role model. I learned to love what I do and who I served from him. I am who I am because of him.” - Karen Christensen-Thickman
The joy in his life was first and foremost his grandchildren, Sebastian and Laila. His sense of humor and great storytelling kept all who knew him laughing. Richard enjoyed being creative. Woodwork and jewelry making were among his favorites. Any time of the day was a good time for a cup of expresso, an apple fritter or one of “those donuts with the pink icing.”
Richard is survived by his son, Richard T. Fusco (Beverly) of West Chester, PA and his daughter, Jacqueline A. Fusco (Khai) of Wyncote, PA and his two grandchildren, Sebastian Fusco and Laila Weinberger. He is also survived by the mother of his children, Nancy Montvydas, his aunt Gloria Volpe, his brother Edmund Fusco (Sandy), his brother James Fusco (Marty), his sister Andrea Milea, and sister-in-law Kathy Fusco along with several nieces, nephews, and their children.
Richard is preceded in death by many of his loved ones. We know in our hearts for certain that he was greeted in death by his parents, his Nana, Antionette Prezioso , his brother Bobby Fusco and his nephew Anthony Milea.
Visitation and service will be from 10:30 – 12:30 PM on Friday, December 30, 2022, both at the Walter J. Meyers Funeral Home, 507 West Ave. in Jenkintown, PA.
Richard was passionate about his work with the elderly, so in lieu of flowers kindly remember Rich by volunteering at a local organization caring for those in nursing homes. Donations can also be sent to Serenity Hospice (3331 Street Road, Suite 101, Bensalem, PA 19020) who, along with Hopkins Center, cared for him so well at the end of his life. Specifically, Rachel Bakeoven and Stephanie Smith.
