Richard Lee Stambaugh

Richard Lee Stambaugh, Ph.D. of King of Prussia, PA, a retired Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Molecular Biology, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 7, 2017 surrounded by his family. He began his career in 1962 as an instructor in Biochemistry in Pediatrics at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and 1963 to 1966, he was a Senior Research Investigator at Fels Research Institute and an instructor in the Biochemistry Department at Temple University. From 1966 until his retirement, he was an Associate Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Department of Molecular Biology at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Stambaugh was born in Mechanicsburg, PA. His parents were the late Niles and Lillie (Shover) Stambaugh. He graduated from Shillington High School in Shillington, PA in 1949 and received his BS degree in 1953 from Albright College. He then went on to graduate school at the University of Pittsburgh and transferred to the University of Pennsylvania and received a Ph.D. in 1959 in Biochemistry. Dr. Stambaugh was the author of many publications in his field. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Evelyn (Bowman) Stambaugh, a son Thomas Stambaugh of Willow Grove, PA, a daughter, Karen (David) Rombach of Prattsburgh, NY, a brother, Paul E. Stambaugh of Mercerville, NJ, four grand-daughters; Corey Coffey, Devin Rombach, and Christina and Emilee Stambaugh. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers, George and Wilbur Stambaugh, a sister, Elsie Stambaugh, and a daughter-in-law, Cynthia Stambaugh. Services for Dr. Stambaugh will be on Friday, October 13, 2017 at noon at the Bacchi Funeral Home & Crematory, Ltd., 805 DeKalb St., Bridgeport, PA 19405. His family will receive visitors, friends, and guests from 11:30 to noon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK 73123.
