Rita B. Carney

Rita Barbara (Cugini) Carney, formerly of King of Prussia, PA, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 12, 2024, at the age of 88. Rita was born on June 23, 1935, at home in Bryn Mawr, PA to the late Daniel and Marie (Giannascoli) Cugini. She graduated from West Catholic High School in Philadelphia, PA, Class of 1953, where she made lifelong friends. She was employed with Bell Telephone in Philadelphia, where she met her beloved husband, Paul John Carney. They were married on May 4, 1957, and celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary before Paul’s passing on May 6, 2024. Paul and Rita moved to King of Prussia and were members of Mother of Divine Providence Parish in King of Prussia, where Rita worked in the church administrative office for many years. She was a member of the King of Prussia Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed getting together with her lifelong friends, loved spending time in Sea Isle City, NJ with her family, and never missed an opportunity to dance.

A kind and gentle woman of unwavering faith, Rita started each day with quiet reflection and prayer. She lived her life in the presence of God with conviction. Rita never hesitated to put others before herself and set an incredible example for her children and grandchildren. She raised her family to believe in the power of faith and prayer and she inspired other individuals in their journey to the Catholic faith. The most important aspects of Rita’s life were God and her family.

Surviving are her 5 children: Paul Carney, Jr. (Jacquie), Stephen Carney (Maureen), Robert Carney (Maja), Timothy Carney (Susan), and Lisa Martin (Michael), as well as two brothers, Daniel Cugini (Joanne) and Thomas Cugini. Rita was the proud grandmother of 12 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Rita’s family will receive relatives and friends at Mother of Divine Providence Church, 333 Allendale Rd., King of Prussia, PA 19406 on Thursday, May 16, 2024 from 9:00am to 10:15am, with her Funeral Mass starting at 10:30am. Interment will be in St. Denis Cemetery, Havertown, PA.
