Rita Ann Kaler

Rita Ann Kaler, (nee’ Douglas), 91 years of age, departed this life on the morning of February 7th 2023. Rita the daughter of Anna and Adolf Douglas of Summerhill Road, East Brunswick, New Jersey., Rita grew up on a big beautiful farm where her Parents could boast that their farm was one of the first fully irrigated farms in the state of New Jersey. Rita became a fabulous cook as she had to prepare meals for all the farmhands and contributed in a big way for a little girl growing up on a busy produce farm.

Soon after meeting Frank Kaler, on a blind date, Rita married Frank in the spring of 1952 and enjoyed many road trips in their fantastic and Stylish Citroen DS. Frank took many sweet and adoring photos of his lovely bride at this time.

Frank and Rita lived together for 55 years in South Brunswick Township NJ., from 1964-2019 when Frank passed away. Rita continued to reside there in her home but In the last few months of her life, she downsized and moved to Wilmington, Delaware. Rita and Frank’s beautiful home had many peach, pear, apricot, and plum trees, Blackberry bushes, Gooseberries, and sprawling vegetable gardens which was a labor of love for her and Frank. Particular attention was lavished on “The Douglas Tomato”, recognized by Rutgers University Agricultural Center as a tomato noteworthy to be named after the” Douglas Farm.” Processing the harvests, canning, freezing, and living off of those few acres was Rita and Frank's dream for themselves and their children, to live a wholesome and self-sustaining life.

Rita is predeceased by her mother-Anna, Father- Adolf, Brother-Robert (wife Barbara), and her adoring Husband Frank Kaler in 2019. Her son in law- Joe Zullo recently predeceased Rita as well, Joe referred to her as” Momma Rita”

Rita is survived by her four children; Ann Zullo, Frank Kaler Jr. (wife, Tonya), David Kaler (Wife

Sherrie) and Lisa Kaler. Grandchildren; Sarah Mongelli (Husband, Gregory), Erin Lamanna (Husband, Maxx), Jessie Kaler (wife Liezel), and Emily Kaler. Great Grandchildren; Frankie, Lena, and Ella. as well as numerous grand pups and grand kitties.

Rita was adored By Her husband, Frank who would often refer to her as “his Angel”. It was so very difficult to see her alone and without our father. We find comfort in the belief that they are reunited once more, Maybe enjoying some whisky sours on the beach, or fishing and soaking up some fine weather and fun in the sunshine.

Our beloved Mother will be forever missed.
