Robert James Coleman, Sr.

January 19, 1931 — November 17, 2015

Robert James Coleman Sr. passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 17, 2015 surrounded by his loving family at his residence in King of Prussia, PA. He was 84. Mr. Coleman worked as a Clerk of Courts for the Montgomery County Courthouse. He was a member of Mother of Divine Providence Church in King of Prussia. Robert enjoyed golfing, fishing, bowling and he was a football coach for the King of Prussia Indians. His favorite pastime was spending time with his wife, Rita. Robert was a US Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving from 1952 to 1954. Born in Conshohocken, PA on January 19, 1931, he was a son of the late Thomas J. and Eva (Eidenshink) Coleman. Surviving is his loving family including his wife of 44 years, Rita S. (Shanaughy) Coleman; 2 sons, Robert J. Coleman, Jr. and David E. (Marybeth) Thornbury; 5 daughters: Maureen C. (Stanley) Szymborski, Bernadette Coleman, Patricia Coleman Allen, Frances Coleman (Rik) Smith and Lisa A. Thornbury (Jennifer Malone); 13 grandchildren: Lisa, Robert III, Meghan, Molly, Alexandra, Denna, Shannon, Lauren, Aidan, Anne, Thomas, Kelly and Justin; 4 great-grandchildren, Francis, Kelley, Robert IV and Meghan; 1 great-great-grandchild, Abigail; 3 brothers: Anthony, Paul (Judy) and James (Mary); 5 sisters: Joan (Edward), Rosemary (Michael), Patricia, Catherine (Joseph) and Theresa; and many other loving family members. He was preceded in death by a son, Stephen R. Thornbury; 2 daughters, Doreen Thornbury O’Donnell and Karen Lynn Thornbury; and a brother, Thomas. Relatives & friends are invited to Robert’s Funeral Mass at Mother of Divine Providence Church, 333 Allendale Rd., King of Prussia, PA on Friday, November 20, 2015 at 11:00 am. His viewing is Friday from 9 to 10:45 am, at the church. Interment will be in Valley Forge Memorial Gardens, King of Prussia, PA.
