Robert A. Conte, Sr.

Robert A. Conte, Sr. November 10, 1942 – August 20, 2015   Robert A. Conte, Sr. (Bob) of Wilmington, DE passed away on Thursday, August 20, 2015, after a courageous battle with cancer.   Bob graduated from Salesianum School in 1960, and later from the University of Delaware. His career started at Hercules, Bob retired from Allied Colloids after more than 30 years.   Bob was a devoted member of St. Helena’s Catholic Church where he was a long time chairperson of the Liturgy Committee. He also served several terms as Executive Chairperson on the Parish Council. He was a special minister of Holy Communion and served many years as president on the Home and School Board. For the past eight years, Bob was co-facilitator of St. Helena’s High School Youth Group. In 2014, Bob received the Order of Merit in recognition for outstanding contributions to the Diocese of Wilmington.   Over the past 40 years, Bob enjoyed playing in the biweekly poker games with his closest buddies. He was a great dancer, enjoyed riding his bike and especially loved taking Gracie for her walks. He also loved to spend every summer with his friends at Broadkill Beach.                                                               Bob is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth Conte, his son, Bob Conte, Jr, his daughter-in-law Lisa Scuderi Conte and three grandchildren, Joey Latina, Bella and Marisa Conte. He is also survived by his sister, Kathy Conte of Redwood City, California. Bob was predeceased by his parents Alfred and Dorothy Conte. In addition to family, Bob’s memory will be cherished by many lifelong friends.   Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian burial at St. Helena’s Catholic Church, 602 Philadelphia Pike, Wilmington, DE on Tuesday, August 25, at 11:30am. A viewing will be held from 10 to 11:20 AM at the church. Entombment will follow at Cathedral Cemetery.   In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests contributions in memory of Bob to St. Helena’s Catholic Church or Salesianum School.HHHH ViV   Services entrusted to Timothy Meyers at Szpindor–Meyers Funeral Home.
