Robert H. Jordan

July 18, 1926 — July 25, 2009

Known for his love of his family and enthusiasm for tennis, long-time King of Prussia resident Robert H. Jordan, died peacefully at the age of 83 in California. He had recently moved to the West Coast with his wife, Virginia, to be closer to his two daughters, who were both at his bedside on July 25, when he passed away after an illness of several months. He took up tennis "out of the blue," as he described, buying a racket by mail order and started hitting balls against the backboard at the age of 10. That led to a lifetime of playing and teaching tennis, and his passion helped prompt his daughters, Barbara and Kathy, to take up the sport and they both competed as professionals and won grand slam championships. Mr. Jordan served in World War II. He demonstrated a natural aptitude for math and logic, which helped him with his life-long quest at both crossword puzzles and bridge and his 45-year career as an actuary with major life insurance companies.Over his decades of community activity, Mr. Jordan was a member of the King of Prussia Rotary Club and a volunteer with the Upper Merion Parks and Historic Foundation.Mr. Jordan is survived by: his wife, Virginia (McDonald) Jordan; his daughters, Barbara and Kathy Jordan; son-in-law, Bill Chandler; daughter-in-law, Sue Sheuerman; sister, Emma Jordan Houska of Carlisle, PA; and his two grand-daughters, Julie and Carly.Relatives and friends are welcome to join us to celebrate his life during a Memorial Service and tribute on Saturday, August 22, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at The Bacchi-Courtney Funeral Home & Crematory, Ltd., 805 DeKalb St. (Rt. 202), Bridgeport, PA 19405. A reception will follow at the Radnor Hotel in Radnor. The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Upper Merion Parks and Historic Foundation, P.O. Box 60875 (McKaig Nature Center), King of Prussia, PA 19406. A devoted husband and father, Bob was always there for us children when they needed a helping hand. He remained independent and courageous, and clear in his words. His last statement to his daughters was: "Love you all." He will be sorely missed.
