Robert R. Allen Sr.

Robert R. Allen, Sr., 95, of Hollywood, PA, passed away peacefully beside family at his residence on Thursday, September 3, 2026.

Bob was born in Philadelphia, PA, on January 21, 1931, the son of the late Helen (Gorry) and Alonzo Rushton Allen.

He was the widower of Margaret Tudor (Freas) Allen.

He was preceded in death by his beloved brother and sister Jack, “kid” and Jane.

Among many things, Bob prided himself in being a good teacher, coach, mentor, sailor, and outdoorsman and devoted his life to his family, his students, and his friends.

Bob was proud to have grown up in “the Hum”, Girard College. He received a Bachelor's Degree from Temple University and a Masters Degree from West Chester University.

Mr Allen began his career as physical director of the Abington YMCA. Followed by teaching and coached in the Lower Moreland School District. After retiring from Lower Moreland, Mr Allen substitute taught in the Abington School District and was honored to be assistant coach of the boys soccer team. Teaching navigation for the Coast Guard Auxiliary became a part time occupation. Summers were spent directing day camps, managing swim clubs, sailing the Chesapeake and being a summer resident in the Pocono mountains where anyone willing to accept the challenge earned a bear claw necklace hand made by Mr Allen himself, as Native American culture was another one of his passions.

He is survived by his daughter, H.Gail Allen, three sons, stepdaughter M. Jeannine, wife of Harry Lowe; and stepson Albie, husband of Kim Barth.

Robert is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren

Family and friends will gather at The Vintage Bar and Grill in Abington, PA, at 12:00 PM on Sunday, September 13, 2026, to honor and celebrate his life.
