Robert G. Rogers

September 18, 1931 — March 26, 2023

Robert (“Bob”) G. Rogers, 91, formally of Bryn Mawr, Pa. passed away on Sunday March 26. His survivors include three sons, Charles (sp. Linda), John (sp. Jill) and Mark (d.p. Reonel); two adult granddaughters, Morgan Carter (sp. Matt) and Madeline Diane; a great-grandson, Cameron Carter; and sister-in-law Cherry Jensen and her family. Another member of the family’s youngest generation, Rory Robert, was born on March 28, 2023. Bob was predeceased by his spouse of more than 60 years, Rev. Dr. Rinda Rogers, in 2018. He was charming, witty and well-read.

Bob was born in Medford, Mass. and raised in Rutland, VT. He graduated from Phillips Andover Academy (1950). He was also a graduate of the undergraduate (1954) and MBA (1959) programs at Harvard and, in contrast to many, felt little need to constantly remind everyone of the fact. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1954 to 1957, largely on the U.S.S. Newport News. Bob spent the bulk of his career at a real estate investment trust, guiding it through high inflation in the late 1970s, high interest rates in 1980s and easing conditions in the 1990s.

Bob spoke often of his admiration for his spouse Rinda’s abilities to relate to people, both personally and in her professional capacity as a pastor in the Lutheran church. He taught his sons the value of hard work, good character and, when appropriate, a good glass of wine or a stiff drink. His sons, each in their own way, rebelled and resisted his advice (well, except for the last part) but eventually succumbed to its wisdom. Bob took delight in his many friendships, and, as a team with Rinda, especially enjoyed dinners out with friends and/or family – when varying mixtures of wide-ranging discussion, laughter, good food, frivolity and deeper meaning were all on offer.

Bob’s solo endeavors during retirement included learning French; gardening; computer club; swimming at the Upper Main Line YMCA; classes at Villanova University; and piano lessons. All of these endeavors were successful, except maybe the piano stuff, but by that point the sons were out of the house and Rinda was the only one who really had to suffer.

Bob was a member at St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church in Audubon, Pa. and, for more than 45 years, Overbrook Golf Club in Bryn Mawr, Pa.

A funeral service is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 1, 2023, at Washington Memorial Chapel, Route 23, Valley Forge, Pa. 19481.
