ROBERT E. SMITH
God, in his infinite wisdom, mercy, and grace, peacefully closed the eyes of beloved father and grandfather Robert E. Smith. He was the loving husband of the late Barbara Ann Smith and leaves to cherish his memory his beloved children, Christopher, Terrence, Heather (Dennis) Hagerty, Conor (Amy), and Shannon (Jack) Boyle. Pop Pop to eleven grandchildren and is also survived by his sister-in-law Alice Dunsmore.
Born in 1939 in Philadelphia, PA to Margaret (McPeak) Smith and Thomas Smith. Robert attended St. Edwards Grammar School, followed by North Catholic High School. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1961-1963.
Robert led a successful career in finance, eventually retiring to spend time with his dearest Barbara and family. In 1966, Robert married Barbara Brophy, and they began a beautiful partnership that lasted 53 years. With five children soon to follow, his vocation became providing for a loving household. Robert had an unwavering faith in God. He was a member of St. Cecelia’s parish, proudly acting as Lector for many years.
Robert was an avid Philadelphia sports fan, especially the Phillies and the Eagles. Robert enjoyed golfing and playing cards with his family and friends. However, what he loved the most was spending time with his family. Whether it was a trip down the shore or the Poconos, a day trip to the city, dining at his favorite locals, or staying at home playing games with his grandchildren, this is when he was at his happiest.
Robert was loved by all for his warm and caring nature, kindness, patience, sincerity, and sense of humor. All who knew him described him as a class act. He showed us how to live each day by being present for each other and family and creating memories that will last a lifetime.
Family and friends are invited to Robert’s viewing Monday, June 17, 2024, from 9 to 10 A.M., followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 A.M., both at St. Genevieve Church, 1225 Bethlehem Pike, Flourtown, PA. Robert’s interment will be held at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made in Robert’s memory to Amedisys Foundation 3331 Street Road, Suite 410, Bensalem, PA 19020.
