Russell J. Bacchi passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 16, 2016, at Broomall Manor after a long illness. He was 91. Mr. Bacchi was the proverbial “quirky uncle” who devoted his life to the care of his mother after his father passed away. He earned his bachelor’s and masters of business administration degrees at Temple University. Russell worked as the accountant for a Conshohocken paper mill for many years, and then at the Temple University Music Fair before retirement. He was a sports fan all his life and held seasons tickets to the Philadelphia Eagles games, favored the Phillies and was an avid golfer for many years. He served as a US Army veteran of WW II, serving as a Technician 5th Grade in the Philippines. Born in Norristown, PA on December 23, 1924, he was a son of the late Benjamin and Eva (Ciaccio) Bacchi. Surviving is his loving family including a sister, Lillian M. McKernan of Media, PA; nieces and nephews: Nora (McKernan) Liero and her husband, Steven of Havertown, PA, Thomas J. McKernan, Jr. and his wife Louise of Colorado Springs, CO, Joan McKernan of Acworth, GA, and Maureen (McKernan) O’Brien and her husband, Robert of Chadds Ford, PA; grandnieces and nephews: Amelia Gillen, her husband, Patrick, LT CMDR, USN and their sons, Patrick & William Gillen of San Diego, CA, Gregory Liero and his wife, Julie of Lancaster, PA, Rachel Thompson, husband Brian, & their daughter, Lucy Mae of Colorado Springs, Caitlin McKernan of Denver, CO, Capt. Kevin McKernan, USAF, his wife Katie, and their daughter, Lillian G. McKernan of Aviano, Italy. He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving niece, Colleen (McKernan) Schuler (Jeffrey) of Burtonsville, MD; and brother-in-law, Thomas J. McKernan (Lillian) of Media, PA. Funeral services and interment in St. Patrick Cemetery in Norristown will be private.
