Salvatore “Sam” Francis Ross passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, September 5, 2026 with his loving family by his side. He was 91 years old. Born in Media, PA on December 30, 1934, he was a son of the late Angelo and Nancy (Pappaianni) DiRosa.
Sam was a lifetime resident of Delaware County, graduating from Media High School in 1953. During his high school years he proudly played on the Media High football team and volunteered as a firefighter for Media Fire Company. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War as a medic from 1953 to 1955. After his service time, he met the love of his life, Elizabeth “Betty” (Logue), and they married on June 15, 1957.
Sam became a certified patternmaker in 1960 and served his career with companies such as General Steel, Westinghouse, and Boeing, retiring in 1998. He was a lifelong Philadelphia sports fan and enjoyed woodworking, gardening, all types of music, especially 50s music, Italian cuisine, and spending time with his family down the shore in Wildwood and Ocean City.
Most importantly, Sam was a dedicated family man. He was a fun, simple, genuine man with a zest for life.
Sam is survived by his loving family including his son, Michael Ross (Carol); three daughters, Deborah Ross, Susan Ross, and Donna Sutcliffe (Steve); 5 grandchildren, Brian Ross (Chelsea), Shelly Goines (Sam), Ryan Sutcliffe, Brendan Sutcliffe, Sean Sutcliffe; 2 great grandsons, Declan Ross and Beckham Ross; as well as many extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his son, James E. Ross; and his siblings, Joseph Ross, John Ross, and Mary Fullmer.
Services and interment will be private for the family.
