Sara "Sally" Abbruzzi

December 15, 1941 — July 15, 2025

Sara “Sally” Shoemaker Abbruzzi passed away peacefully in her daughter’s home on July 15, 2025 following a brief illness. She was 84.

Born on December 15, 1941 in Wilkes-Barre, PA, Sally was the daughter of the late Jane (Morgan) and John Shoemaker. She was the beloved wife of the late Anthony “Joe” Abbruzzi who preceded her in death last September. Together, they shared more than 55 years of marriage and the same birthday. Sally is survived by her 3 children: Anthony “AJ” Abbruzzi III, DO (Alyson Emmons, DO), David M. Abbruzzi and Sara Abbruzzi, DO (John Kuesel). She was a proud grandmother to her four grandchildren: Julianna Abbruzzi, Alexander Abbruzzi, Kathryn Abbruzzi and Lily Abbruzzi.

At a young age, Sally moved to Wynnewood, PA with her parents. She graduated from Merion Mercy Academy and later attended Drexel University. While working at Philco Finance, she met Joe and together they built a life rooted in hard work and family. They owned and operated 3 Army-Navy stores along with several other retail stores throughout Pennsylvania- a true embodiment of the American dream. Later in life, she spent 15 years working in a doctor’s office.

Sally had a strong faith and was an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Gulph Mills, PA where she served as a eucharistic minister giving communion on Sundays. She also taught Sunday School at St Mary’s Episcopal Church in Ardmore, PA and later at Trinity Church.

Sally had a passion for art and was a volunteer at Art Goes To School in the 1980s. She brought large replicas of famous paintings into local elementary schools and taught children to learn and appreciate art in all its forms.

In her spare time, Sally was an avid reader. She often read 3-4 books in a given week and several newspapers as well. She followed current events closely.

She will be remembered for her thoughtfulness and compassion. She never forgot a birthday or an anniversary and was known for sending handwritten cards with kind words- small gestures to let someone know they were appreciated.

Donations can be made to Trinity Church, Gulph Mills PA.
