Sebastiano Catanese

Sebastiano Catanese, 96, of Jenkintown, PA passed away Friday, November 12th, 2021 peacefully, at Abington Hospital-Jefferson Health, in Abington. Sebastiano was born in Cataforio, a tiny village in Reggio Calabria, Italy on September 4, 1925, a son of the late Caterina (Canale) and Anthony Catanese. He was the husband of Renata Bottarelli Catanese. A true global citizen, Sebastiano enjoyed travel and made friends all over the world. He worked as a hairdresser in Milan, Italy, then brought those skills to the US, working as a hairdresser in Philadelphia until he retired in the mid-eighties. Never one to shy away from the warm weather, he chased the sun for the next 30 years, splitting his time between St. Maarten and the US. Sebastiano was crafty and had numerous hobbies, including winemaking, creating wooden jewelry boxes, and one-of-a-kind cutting boards. If you shopped at Whole Foods in Jenkintown in the 2010s, you may have one of his boards somewhere in your kitchen. Sebastiano is survived by his beloved wife Renata, two daughters, Caterina Marino, Cristina Keiner, and a son, Davide Catanese. He is also survived by his Grandson Anthony Marino and his Great Grandchildren Renata and Candida. Public Visitation will be held 1 PM to 2 PM on Friday, November 19th, 2021 at the Joseph J. McGoldrick Funeral Home 507 West Ave. in Jenkintown, PA. A Memorial Service will be held at 2 PM.
