Doctor Stephen Nelson died peacefully on Thursday, July 18th, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. For many years, he fought a courageous battle against cancer. He is survived by his wife Gail, son Alexander (Amanda), daughter Meredith, and dog Charlie.
Steve’s first priority was his devotion to family. He gave his love, time, and attention to his wife and children in all aspects of life. He planned many wonderful family vacations, attended school and sporting events, and engaged everyone in interesting and entertaining conversations. Board games and movies were fun family hobbies.
For over forty years he was an infectious disease physician at Crozer Chester Medical Center. Beloved by patients and hospital staff, he was known for his diagnostic expertise and kind, calm demeanor. A true gentleman, Steve found his calling as a doctor and loved being of service to others.
Born in Los Angeles, California, he graduated summa cum laude from Yale University, Saybrook, class of 1971. He often said that college was one of his greatest life experiences. His education fostered his love for medicine which led him to attend Hahnemann Medical School. As an only child, he found his “band of brothers” at Yale, forming lifelong friendships that sustained him and stood the test of time.
Stephen, also known as Nels, was an optimist who overcame adversity with faith, hope, and a “my cup runneth over” attitude. He was a special and one-of-a-kind human being. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
