Thomas Anthony Carney, 64 of Skippack, PA, passed away peacefully on Dec. 9, 2017. In his last days he was surrounded by his loving wife of 40 years, Kathleen (Gallagher) and his five children — daughters, Kelly Melwert (James), Erin Berry (Sean), Shannon Spangler (Stephen), Caitlin Shutte (Robert) and son Brendan, as well as other surviving family and lifelong friends. Tom was born in Toronto, Canada on February 21, 1953, to William and Catherine (Lavelle) Carney as they emigrated from Ireland. The family soon settled in Philadelphia and Tom grew up in West Oak Lane with his brother Kevin Carney (Diane), and sisters Kathleen Smirnov (Valentino) and Margaret Morris (Jonathan). He attended St. Athanasius School, Central High School, and Penn State University. After college, Tom returned home to the family business, Carney’s Tavern in Roslyn, where his larger than life personality was a staple behind the bar. In addition to being a loving “pop pop” to his eight grandchildren, Tom will be remembered for his untiring work ethic, his lively conversations, and his passion for sports. The family will receive relatives and friends on Wed., Dec. 13 from 6-9 PM at Joseph J. McGoldrick Funeral Home 507 West Ave. Jenkintown, PA 19046. Friends and family of Tom can share in a celebration of his life on Thurs., Dec. 14 at 10 AM at Immaculate Conception Church 602 West Ave. Jenkintown, PA. Interment will be in Ireland.
