Thomas A. Payne Lovingly remembered by his family, Thomas A. Payne of Audubon PA, formerly Overbrook, PA passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on December 18, 2020. Thomas, born on January 29, 1938, was the son of the late Russell R. and Margaret T. Payne. Beloved husband of the late Marlene Molines Payne. Loving Father of Thomas J. Payne and Dr. Stephanie Payne Capua (Dr. Joseph). Also survived by his dear Grandchildren, Carolyn, Stephen, Connor and Dylan as well as his siblings Helen McCabe, John Payne (Nancy), Margaret “Pip” Shafer and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers Russell R. Payne, Jr. “Bunny Boy” and George Payne (Jeanne). He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army and continued as a reservist for several years. Tom was a graduate of St. Joseph’s College in 1959 where he was fortunate to play the sport of baseball, his passion. He also graduated from Villanova University’s Masters program where he earned his M. Ed. Former teacher/coach at St. Thomas More, his alma mater and John Bartram High Schools. He enjoyed his time as a bartender and golf starter at Westover Country Club for over 45 years. He was a proud and faithful member of Visitation BVM Parish since 1970. An avid sports enthusiast, he had an encyclopedic knowledge of teams, players, scores and games. He could tell you details about plays and scores of games from decades ago and where and when they were played. Tom thoroughly enjoyed being a high school and youth basketball referee, youth baseball coach and umpire for many years. He loved and followed all Philadelphia sports teams with a passion. But his greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his four grandchildren whom he was extremely proud of. He showed his entire family unconditional love and support and taught them, by example, proper Christian morals and values. Tom was a kind, compassionate, supportive, loving and faith filled man, an example to us all. He will be sorely missed. May God welcome him through the gates of heaven with open arms. Relatives and friends are invited to his funeral being held at Visitation BVM Church, Trooper, PA on December 30, 2020. Visitation from 9:45-10:45, Mass at 11:00am followed by the Interment at Calvary Cemetery, Conshohocken, PA.
