Weir Thomas Michael ‘TOM’ of Philadelphia, 86, September 2, 2017, peacefully in Chelsea, MA, surrounded by his family. Beloved husband of the late Anna (nee Lung), loving father of Theresa, Zoe, and Jeanine, father in law to Mark, David, and Bruce, brother to the late James (Doc), George, Anna Kulp, Marie Griffin, Dorothy Weiss, Helen Canney, and Margaret Kleidon. Survived also by in laws Rob, Pat, and Chuck, and many nieces and nephews and more in the Weir and Lung extended families. Born on November 3, 1930, to Anna (nee Ferguson) and Michael Joseph Weir, in a Philadelphia neighborhood affectionately known as "Swamp Poodle,” Mr. Weir went on to spend several years studying to be a foreign missionary brother at Maryknoll in NY, where he was introduced to liberation theology, before deciding to pursue a life which intertwined family, home ministry, politics, social justice and the push for marriage and women in the catholic priesthood. His home and table in Germantown were open to all. As Tom's illness progressed, he maintained his strong senses of justice and humor. He will live on in the memories of family, friends, and the many others whose lives he touched. The Weir family will receive guests on Friday October 20, from 6-8 P.M. at the Joseph J. McGoldrick Funeral Home 507 West Ave, Jenkintown Funeral Mass will be held at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 109 East Price St., Phila, on Saturday, October 21, at 10 A.M. Internment at Holy Redeemer Cem. In lieu of flowers Donations to St. Vincent's or the Catholic Worker.
