Virginia “Gina” M. Plisiewicz passed away on Thursday, August 10, 2023 at Einstein Montgomery Medical Center in E. Norriton, PA. She was 75. Gina was a lifelong Bridgeportonian, born in Norristown, Pa on November 29, 1947, she was the daughter of the late Alphonse J. and Pauline M. (Moshtuk) Plisiewicz. Gina was a graduate of Bridgeport High School and was a member of Saints Peter and Paul Ukrainian Church, active in with their social hall during weddings, parties, and other community events. She owned and operated Gina’s Hairstyling which was most recently located at Fifth and Mill Streets, just a few doors from her lifelong home and was the hairdresser for over 50 years for The Bacchi Funeral Home.
Gina was very active in local politics and municipal elections. She was the first woman to run for mayor in the history of Bridgeport and for fifty years was an Election Day poll worker serving in several capacities including Judge of Elections for Ward One, until she stepped down earlier this year prior to the 2023 Primary season. She also served as a party committee member for several years.
In her neighborhood and across community, Gina was at the forefront of several issues, always fighting vigorously for our Police Department, Fire, and Rescue and led the charge to maintain the Post Office in the borough on several occasions.
Gina was also active in the Bridgeport High School Alumni Association, part of the committee that hosted a bi-annual all class reunions and maintaining lifelong relationships with many of her graduating classmates. Gina was a tremendous resource for verbal history of Bridgeport and was a supporter of the Hall of Fame Museum.
Gina is survived by loving family including her brother, Joseph S. Plisiewicz; 2 nephews, Andrew and Robert Plisiewicz; 3 nieces: Lori Ponce, Rebecca Pleshevitz, and Robyn Peters; her lifelong companion, Donald Rice; many great nephews, great nieces and other loving family members and friends.
She is preceded in death by a brother, Robert J. Plisiewicz
Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing at Saints Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, 519 Union Ave., Bridgeport, PA on Friday, August 18, 2023 from 8:30am to 9:45am; with her Divine Liturgy starting at 10:00am. Interment will be at Saints Peter and Paul Ukrainian Cemetery, King of Prussia, PA.
