Walter Shaffer “Bud” Place of Eagleville, Pa. passed away suddenly at home on Wednesday, January 2, 2019. Born Feb. 5, 1941 in Norristown to the late Walter Hallman and Mary Elinor Shaffer Place. He is survived by a sister, Nancy Hommer (Phil); a nephew, Mark Hommer (Sandi); niece, Karen Hommer and many cousins. Bud was home schooled during his elementary and middle school years and graduated from Norristown High School, class of ‘58. He took correspondence courses from LaSalle Extension University, finishing with an accounting major. He became a self-employed public accountant, providing bookkeeping services for small businesses and preparing income tax returns. Walter was a political activist supporting a variety of programs and services for the disabled, particularly the federal Americans with Disabilities Act and the Attendant Care Program in Pa. He was a life- long member of Lower Providence Presbyterian Church, being instrumental in the church adding an elevator. Bud loved watching sports and was an especially avid Phillies and Eagles fan. Other hobbies included Sudoku, puzzles and trivia games and listening to country music as well as spending time with family, caregivers and other friends often via the computer. Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2019 from 9:50 – 10:50 am followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. at Lower Providence Presbyterian Church, 3050 W. Ridge Pike, Eagleville, Pa 19403. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions in Bud’s memory may be made to the Lower Providence Presbyterian Church.
