Walter B. Sharrar passed away peacefully on Monday, October 11, 2010, surrounded by his loving family at his residence in King of Prussia, PA. He was 76. Mr. Sharrar worked as an engineer for the former General Electric Company, Aerospace division first in Philadelphia, then with the Apollo Space Program in Florida before relocating to King of Prussia, PA in 1970. Walter was a US Army veteran; he served in the Korean Conflict as a radio operator. His amateur radio call sign was WA3PPW, and he was an avid member of the Rooster Net. He attended Penn State University in State College, PA. Throughout his life, Walter had a passion for railroads, classic cars and travel, traveling to all fifty states with his wife Donna. His greatest joy in life came from his family, especially his grandchildren.Born in Altoona, PA on October 23, 1933, he was a son of the late Thomas R. and Ruth G. (Griffith) Sharrar. Surviving is his loving family including his wife, Donna J. (Kopp) Sharrar; a son, Walter B. Sharrar II of Sanatoga, PA; two daughters, Donna J. Venable and her husband, Dean of King of Prussia, PA and Colleen R. Bornstad and her husband, Randall of Collegeville, PA; four grandchildren: Patrick, Erin, Tyler and Connor; four brothers, Jack H. Sharrar and his wife, Carol of Bridgeton, NJ, Dr. William G. Sharrar and his wife, Catherine of Philadelphia, PA, Drs. Robert G. Sharrar and his wife, Karen of Philadelphia, PA and Chester E. Sharrar and his wife, Gwendolyn of Towson, DE; two sisters, Betty S. Robb of Seattle, WA and Nancy L. Evenson and her husband, Chester of Bend, OR; and many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas R. Sharrar and a sister, Shirley DuBois.Relatives and friends are invited to his Memorial Service at The Bacchi Funeral Home & Crematory, Ltd., 805 DeKalb St. (Rt. 202), Bridgeport, PA 19405 on Saturday, October 16, 2010 at 1:30pm.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Walter's memory to Penn Wissahickon Hospice, 150 Monument Rd., Suite 300, Bala Cynwyd, PA 19004. www.bacchifuneralhome.com
