Walter Skrypec passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 9, 2010 at the Neighborhood VNA Inpatient Hospice in W. Chester, PA. He was 89. Previously of New York, Walter was a survivor of the WWII Dachau Concentration Camp in Germany. Immigrating to the US in 1950, Walter and his wife settled in the Lower East Side of NYC. He was a very active member of St. George's Ukrainian Catholic Church in New York City, the Ukraine Youth Organization (PLAST) and the Ukrainian Sports Club of N.Y.C. Walter was a very proud Ukrainian-American Citizen. He worked as a window cleaner in New York City. Born in the Ukraine on October 25, 1920, he was a son of the late Matthew and Catharine (Ozimek) Skrypec. Surviving are his loving family including his wife, Maria (Zahorujko) Skrypec; a son, Jaroslav Skrypec of New York City, NY; two daughters, Genia M. Charczenko and her husband, Walter of Montahue, NJ and Luba Somits and her husband, Mark of W. Chester, PA; five grandchildren: Christa, Catherine, Mark, Roman and Lara; two brothers, Tadiesz Skrzypiec of Poland and Peter Skrzypiec of the Ukraine; a sister, Stefania Kuras of Poland and many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Slavko and Ivan Skrzypiec. Relatives & friends are invited to his Divine Liturgy at SS. Peter & Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, 519 Union Ave., Bridgeport, PA 19405 on Saturday, February 13, 2010 at 10:30am. Officiating will be the Rev. Msgr. Ronald Popivchak, Pastor. Interment in SS. Peter & Paul Ukrainian Cemetery, King of Prussia, PA. His viewing is Saturday morning from 9 to 10:20am, at the church.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to SS.
