William M. Duffy June 21, 1945 – July 8, 2011 Retired Philadelphia Firefighter and Vietnam Veteran. William “Bill” Duffy, retired as a Lieutenant from the Fire Department in 2006. He graduated from Fire School in 1977 and was assigned to Ladder 7 at 4th and Girard. Bill spent at least fifteen years of his career at this ladder company which he loved because it was an active station. He was promoted to Lieutenant in 1996. A 1963 graduate of Father Judge High School Bill enlisted in the Air Force right out of school. Bill served from 1963 to 1971. He was decorated for his service in Vietnam serving as an Aircrew member on a EC-47 and participated in more than 200 Missions over the Republic of Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos. He was a recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross with a cluster, signifying a second award as well as a number of other medals and ribbons. He is a lifetime member of the William D. Oxley Post 33 (VFW) Bill’s recent passion, in the past few years has been the Philadelphia Phillies. He loved watching the Phillies play. Bill is the son of the late John J. Duffy Sr. and Marie T. Duffy (Deegan) and also brother of the late Patrick M. Duffy. Bill is survived by his sisters, Margaret Alters, (William) Bernadette Brennan, Kathleen Morrison, (Joseph) and his two brothers John Duffy (Phyllis) and James Duffy (Patricia). He is also survived by Aunts, Uncles and numerous Nieces, Nephews and, Grand Nieces and Nephews. His Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday July 13, 2011 at St. Leo the Great Church at 10 AM. A visitation will take place Tuesday from 7-9 PM and Wednesday 8:30 to 9:30 AM at the Walter J. Meyers Funeral Home 6643-45 Torresdale Ave. Phila., PA 19135.
