William R. "Gus" Gerstemeier

Wm. Richard “Gus” Gerstemeier passed away peacefully on Friday, January 11, 2019 at Paoli Hospital. Gus was born in Elkins Park, PA on July 17, 1935, he was a son of the late Charles and Thelma (nee Bross) Gerstemeier. In addition to his wife, Colletta Jean, of 56 years and his parents, Gus is predeceased by his brother, Charles “Sony” Gerstemeier. At Cheltenham High School Gus was known as “Billy the Wrestler” and continued his passion for wrestling at West Chester University, where he received his Doctorate in Health and Physical Education. This is where he met the love of his life, Colletta Jean Huber, and they were married on September 3, 1960 and resided in King of Prussia. They were members of Mother of Divine Providence Church. His second love was teaching and coaching which lead him to work at Drexel Univ., Univ. of Penn, Episcopal Academy and Radnor High School. Surviving is his loving family including his son, Wm. Todd Gerstemeier; two daughters, Tamara J. Sweeney and Colletta L. Roberts; and seven grandchildren. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Mother of Divine Providence Church, 333 Allendale Rd., King of Prussia, PA 19406 on Thursday, January 17, 2019 at 11 am. The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday from 9:50-10:50 am, at the church. Interment will be private.
