William G. Murphy, Sr. passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 20, 2021 at Shannondell in Audubon, PA. He was 91. Mr. Murphy was a resident of Audubon and was formerly of King of Prussia, PA, where he lived for 40 years. He graduated from Iona College in 1951 and was soon drafted and served in the US Army. William worked as a manager for the Atlantic Richfield Company, until his retirement in 1991. He was a member of St. Teresa of Avila Church and a former very active member of Mother of Divine Providence Church for many years. William was a volunteer tax preparer and enjoyed golf. He loved billiards and ran the Shannondell leagues. Born in Queens, New York on June 4, 1929, he was a son of the late William J. and Cecelia (Cullen) Murphy. He was the husband of the late Eileen T. Murphy, who died in 2020 and they were married for 68 years. Bill is survived by his loving family including 3 sons: William G. Murphy, Jr. (Cecelia “Peggy”), Thomas J. Murphy (Betty) and Mark J. Murphy (Amy Greer); 2 daughters, Regina E. Oplinger (John) and Theresa M. Betts (John); 7 grandchildren: Leigh Anne Lonergan (Sean), Brian Murphy (Rachel), Katie Murphy, Michael Oplinger, Amy Almes (Anthony), Andrew Betts and Kristin Betts; 4 great-grandchildren: Hadley Lonergan, Zoe Lonergan, William Porter Lonergan and Tristan Lonergan; a sister, Midge Priest; as well as many other loving family members. He was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Rita Pesature and Ethel Meara. Relatives and friends are invited to Bill’s viewing at the Bacchi Funeral Home & Crematory, Ltd., 805 DeKalb St., Bridgeport, PA on Monday, April 26, 2021 from 8 to 9:00 am. His Funeral Mass will follow at St. Teresa of Avila Church, 1260 S. Trooper Rd., Audubon, PA at 10:00 am. Mass will be livestreamed starting at 10:00 am.
