William H. Reilly

May 24, 1939 — December 31, 2016

William Hayes Reilly passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 31, 2016 at Phoenixville Hospital with his eldest daughter holding his hand. He was born in Hershey, PA on May 24, 1939 to the late Hayes Harry Reilly & Alice (Schell) Reilly. Bill was always guided by his faith and was a member of a small, non-denominational Christian congregation who were loving, close friends for almost 50 years. He liked the verse, Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. (Matthew 5:9) and he strived to be a peacemaker in all of his interactions with others. A graduate of Hershey High School, Bill was the President of his class, remaining active in planning class reunions and always enjoying meeting up less formally with some of his classmates in their senior years. He graduated from Penn State in 1962 and remained a proud Penn State alumnus, often sporting his Penn State ball cap. After earning a Bachelor’s degree in psychology, he worked for Norristown State Hospital while earning his Master’s degree. He then dedicated his service to Upper Merion School District where he worked for 33 years as a school psychologist who was recognized for his professionalism and expertise. During a hospital stay in early childhood, Bill became aware of the happiness Mickey Mouse could bring about and over the course of his life he retained that memory and loved spending time with family & friends in Disney World. He often wore Mickey ties, sweaters or socks to work, bringing smiles to students and faculty. Bill was an avid bicyclist, participating in “Century Rides” (100 miles) and coming in first in his age group. He enjoyed competition and challenging himself which served him well when he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2008. Bill is survived by his wife of 56 years, Ann Elizabeth (Bikle) and his two daughters, Sharon Reilly & Susan Reilly (son-in-law Jason Baker), and granddaughter Arwynn Reilly Taylor. His kind spirit, humor, and generosity were a gift to all who knew him and he will be greatly missed by many. Because his friends and family are spread across states, small celebrations of his life will be held in New Jersey and Elizabethtown, PA. Arrangements entrusted to Szpindor-Meyers Funeral Home.
