William J. Santangelo

October 8, 1932 — July 16, 2016

William J. Santangelo, Sr. passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 16, 2016, at Phoenixville Hospital in Phoenixville, PA. He was 83. Mr. Santangelo was a resident of Collegeville, PA. He worked as a truck driver for many years. William loved animals and Maryland Blue Crabs and was an avid bowler and golfer. He was a NAA Baseball coach, and mentored a lot of children. He was a race car driver who raced Mario Andretti and actually beat him once. He also knew and rubbed elbows with many of the Eagles players. William had a very rough childhood but with determination managed to make lemonade out of lemons. William was a US Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and was awarded a Purple Heart. Born in Norristown, PA on October 8, 1932, he was a son of the late Angelo Santangelo and Frances (Dupouy) Hubbard. He was the husband of the late Janet (Basler) Santangelo. Surviving is his loving family including four sons: John (Bonnie) Santangelo of Collegeville, PA, Michael (Michele) Santangelo of Birdsboro, PA, Steven (Lisa) Santangelo of Fort Meyers, FL and Anthony (Maria) Santangelo of Reading, PA; one daughter, Donna (George) Gajewski of Limerick, PA; a brother, Richard Hubbard; 18 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and many other loving family members. He was preceded in death by three brothers: John, Robert and Anthony; and a sister, Annette. Funeral services will be private at the request of the family. A celebration of William's life will be held Friday, July 22, 2016 at the Copperfield Inn at Lakeside, 594 W. Ridge Pike in Limerick, PA from 3:00 to 7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in William’s memory to the Montgomery County SPCA, 19 E. Ridge Pike, Conshohocken, PA 19428.
